Allen L. Whetstone, age 82 of New Hampshire, Ohio; passed at 5:57 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2019 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born July 12, 1936 in Auglaize County, Ohio to the late Vilas Ray and Rosaline Catherine Jacobs Whetstone. On July 27, 1956 he married Elsie Nell Swartz who survives in New Hampshire.
Mr. Whetstone was raised on the Whetstone dairy farm which was established in the 1790s. He then enlisted into the U.S. Army at the end of the Korean conflict and started working as a welder at Westinghouse Corporation where he retired after 30 years. Studying the Bible and knowing God was very important to Allen. He had been a lay leader with the Methodist conference and was a member of the Waynesfield Baptist Church. He loved his family dearly and treasured attending his grandchildren’s sport games. He enjoyed the outdoors and being able to garden.
Also surviving are 6 children – Amy (Richard) Dotson of Wapakoneta; Cathy (Wade) Quay of Smyrna, Georgia; Bonnie (Scott) Laurie of Maumee, OH; DeMaris ‘Dee’ Whetstone of New Hampshire, OH; Ellen (David) Conley of AZ; and Rex Allen Whetstone of Lima; 10 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren; and a brother – Douglas Dean Whetstone of Cridersville.
He was preceded in death by a step grandchild, a great grandchild, a brother – Melvin Whetstone, and 2 sisters – Janet Marie Whetstone and Marilyn Sue Whetstone.
Funeral services will begin 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Waynesfield Baptist Church. Rev. Don Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, near Uniopolis, where military rites will be observed.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday at Waynesfield Baptist Church and an hour prior to services at the church.
