Obituary

Arven L. Spence, age 81 of Rushsylvania, died at 7:20 a.m., Sunday, February 8, 2015 at his home after a brief illness. He was born March 16, 1933 in McComb, Ohio to the late Samuel O. and Mabel J. Pfoust Spence. He was formerly married to Mary Lynn Kopp Spence Hunt, who is deceased and then on April 27, 1972 he married Emma Skidmore Schrader.

He is survived by children – Michael W. (Mary) Spence of Rushsylvania; Herbert D. (Arica) Schrader of Rushsylvania; Toni (Robert Schrader of Rushsylvania; Shirley (Frederick) Hawkins of Elida; Susan (Robert) Slagle of Hebron; Carol (Michael) Sumney of Lima; Eva (Gary) Adams of Lima; Valeria Givens of Ridgeway; 19 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; a brother – Gerald (Jerry) Spence of Lima; a sister – M. Leona Wien of Delphos; 2 sister-in-laws – Roberta Spence of Lima and Sheila Spence of Lima and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends in the community.

He was preceded in death by 5 great grandchildren – William, Brittney, Samantha, Lincoln, and Elegance; brothers – Samuel ‘Bud’ Spence, Gilbert ‘Al’ Spence, Daniel ‘Dan’ Spence; brother-in-law – Tom Wien; sister-in-law – Jan Spence.

Mr. Spence had worked at Neon Products in Lima and upon its closing he became a private business owner. After that he worked for the town of Rushsylvania, Benjamin Logan Schools, and the Rushcreek Township. He supported the Lions Club, Rushcreek Fire Department and Rushsylvania Ball Association.

Graveside services in Rushsylvania Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rushcreek Fire Department, Squad 91.
