Bill Penland, age 78 of Lima, passed peacefully in his home, at 6:05 a.m. He was born November 22, 1937 in Knox County, Kentucky. He was the son of Oscar P. and Eula Vee Lake Penland, raised by J.C. Penland and Jessie (Golden) Penland, all of whom preceded him in death. On June 5, 1963 he married his best friend, love of his life, Sharon Sue Margraves, who survives in Lima.
Bill retired from Rising Sun Express in 1996, leaving many great co-workers and friends.
Bill was a loving member of Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church where he loved to watch the young people grow and sing.
Bill was fully devoted to his family. His wife and children come before anything else.
He leaves behind three daughters, Tammy (Lee) Stroud of New Knoxville, Ohio, Kelly (Tony) Doss and Stacy (Brian) Miller. He took pride in all eleven of his grandchildren: Stephanie Paris, Jennifer (Ritchie) Hawley of Missouri, Russell (Lee Ann) Stroud of New Knoxville, Ohio, Cassandra Doss of Indiana, Steven (Kirsten) Doss, of Ohio, Jacob CP Miller and Annabelle Miller, of Lima, BJ (Becca) Penland, Samantha Penland, Robert Penland, Elizabeth Penland, all of Kentucky; a great grandfather to seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Bowling of Tennessee and Nadine Brown of Kentucky, one brother, Conley Penland, of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by an amazing son, William O. Penland, one grandson, Steven Penland, and three beautiful great grandbabies, Kaimen, Presley, and Grady. All who we know were anxiously waiting for his arrival.
Memorial services will begin 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Lafayette Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Ken Waldrop will officiate.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions can be given to the wife, Sue.
