Billy J. Miller, age 71 of Lima, died 7:30 a.m., Monday, January 31, 2011 in his residence. He was born October 2, 1939 in Jackson, Ohio. He is the son of James Benjamin “Ben” and Elizabeth “Sally” Patton Miller. Both parents are deceased. On November 9, 1957 he married Darlene Ruth Mayer, who survives.
Mr. Miller retired after 44 years with Palmer-Donavin Manufacturing, where he worked in the warehouse and sales. He attended the Lima Community Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, was an avid old car buff, and loved fishing, camping and being in the outdoors. He never new a stranger and was always willing to help. Spending time with his loving wife, children, and all his wonderful grandchildren was most important and meaningful to him.
He is also survived by 5 sons – Gary (Robin) Miller of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; Steve (LaJanna) Miller of Lima; Ben Miller of Lima; Bill (Brenda) Miller of Lima; Jason Miller of Lima; 2 daughters – Tracy L. (Jon) Cox of Lafayette; Lori (Rick) Kates of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter-in-law – Barb (Steve) Miller of Kenton; 16 grandchildren – Matt (Angie) Cox; Rachell (Aaron) Hayden; Elizabeth (Ryan) Coates; Heather (Jason) Hohen; Amber (Jon) Rotroff; Sarah Miller; Lauren Miller, Joe Miller, Jacob Kates, Drew Kates, Emily Miller, Kari Miller, Lucas Miller, Austin Miller, Cody Miller, Chase Miller; 14 great grandchildren; 6 Brothers – Charlie (Sharon) Miller of Middle Point, Ohio; Herman (Cheryl) Miller of Van Wert, Ohio; Maurice (April) Miller of Middle Point, Ohio; Miah Miller of San Francisco, California; Jack (Robin) Miller of Convoy, Ohio; Paul (Dora) Miller of Garett, Indiana; 3 sisters – Narcie Maus of Lima, Ohio; Angie (Gary) Becker of Celina, Ohio; Sandy (Skip) Pangle of Lima; and 1 brother-in-law Bill George of Mendon, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters – Ellen Fay Miller, Mabel George, and Lois George.
Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 4, 2011 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Burial will follow in Hartford Cemetery, Allentown and Defiance Trail, Lima, Ohio.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Shriners Childrens Hospital.
