Byron Leo Foltz age 94, of Wapakoneta died 10:48 a.m., Tuesday March 16, at his residence. He was born Nov. 20, 1915 in Buckland, Ohio to Zelin and Fairy Thomas Foltz. His father died young and he was raised by his step father Harry Kiser. He married Rowena Lucille Stiles April 21, 1935 and she survives in Wapak.
Mr. Foltz had been a farmer for more than 60 years and had retired from Ford Motor Company Jan. of 1981 after 22 years of service as a machine setter. He was a member of UAW 1219 Retirees. Mr. Foltz was a long time member of Lima Baptist Temple and played with Harps and Strings. He taught many church classes over the years and enjoyed traveling to revivals and singing with the family. He also enjoyed writing poetry and wood working.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law Joanne Foltz of Tanzania, 2 son-in-laws: Norman Thomas of Elida and Lester Raker of Clear Brook, VA, a half brother Andrew (Betty)Kiser of Florida, 9 grandchildren: Kevin (Tammy) Thomas, Rochelle (Dave) Benfield, Roger A. ‘Tony’ (Caroline) Raker, Leslie (Roy) Horton, Patrick L. (Jacky) Raker, Jonathan (Danielle) Foltz, Byron L. (Heather) Foltz, II, Nathan Foltz and Megan Foltz, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by 4 children: Roger Lane Foltz, Rev. Thomas Leo Foltz, Marleen Sue Thomas and Kaetta Lou Raker, a stepbrother Lyle Kiser and a step sister Eleanor Plummer.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday March 21 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Funeral service will begin 2:00 p.m., Monday March 22 at the funeral home with Rev. Ronald B. Cannon officiating, burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery near Uniopolis. Memorial contributions may be given to Lima Baptist Temple or to Bible Baptist Fellowship c/o Bible Baptist Academy of Arusha, P.O. Box 191 Springfield, MO 65801-0191.
