Charline Loretta Orn Craig, 94, passed from this life to eternal life in heaven on Wednesday morning, June 25, 2014, at Springview Manor.
She was born August 10, l919 on the front porch of her home on a farm near Milford, Indiana, Kosciusko County, the only child of Orvil A. and Mabel A. (Rosenbohm) Orn, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Milford High School in 1937 and then worked as a waitress at Meyer Drug Company and as a receptionist at General Electric Company in Ft. Wayne, IN. There she met “the most wonderful man in the world” and on July 19, 1943, married John S. Craig, who preceded her in death on April 13, 1977.
They had four sons: Fred A. (Mary Alice Whitehead), both deceased; Stephen J. (Vicki), Livingston, TX; Allan O. (Diane), Sydney, Australia; and Michael T. (Martha), Lima, OH. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Adam W. Craig, Lexington, KY; Leah W. (Tim Thornberry) Craig, Oklahoma City, OK; Jeremy S. (Melanie) Craig, Pendleton, IN; Melissa K. (Kevin) Spall, Barberton, OH; Savannah L. Craig, Sydney, Australia; Molly E. (Ben) Collins, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Africa; and Matthew S. Craig, Marcus A. Craig, Michelle C. Craig, and Micah J. Craig, all of Lima. She is also survived by one step-grandson, Joel G. Deane, Blackheath, Australia, and three great-grandchildren: Kessa A. Craig, Patrick J. Spall, and Owen N. Spall.
Her life as a wife and homemaker was centered on her husband and her boys’ activities as well as serving at her church and in her community. She never met a stranger and could talk the ear off a fencepost. Following the death of her beloved husband, she traveled to see her kids wherever they happened to be in this world. She dearly loved her grandchildren and was there for nearly all of their births. She could garage sale and price-haggle with the best of them. She was a good neighbor to all and felt most fulfilled when performing acts of kindness for others. In later years she lived at Otterbein Senior Living in St. Marys, OH, then Primrose Retirement and Springview Manor in Lima, OH.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 11:30 a.m. at Bayliff and Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, OH. Dr. Daniel H. Messner will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Milford Cemetery, Milford, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Envision” to support the missionary work of granddaughter Molly and her husband Ben as they share the Gospel in Burkina Faso, Africa.
