Dallas Dean Zimmerman, age 92 of Cridersville,went to his heavenly home 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018 at his residence, 3 months after finding out he had pancreatric cancer. He was born February 8, 1926 in Auglaize County to the late Raymond and Goldie Shaffer Zimmerman. On June 7, 1947 he married Donna June Barrett, who survives. They were married over70 years.
Before retiring from Elida Machine and Tool, Dallas was a machinist and welder working at Westinghouse in Lima, Holtzapple Hatchery in Elida, and Superior Tube in Wapakoneta. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1944 and was a member of the Buckland United Church of Christ where he served as a Sunday School superintendent, elder, deacon, and a choir member. He had a passion for aviation and enjoyed flying his 1947 Aeronca Chief airplane and vacationing in Chattanooga, TN, where he would hang-glide off the mountains. He loved his family dearly and doing things for them.
Survivors include his three children – Carolyn Sue (Terry) Fittro of Surprise, AZ; Barbara (Paul) McCullough of New Knoxville, and Barry (Sheila) Zimmerman of Wapakoneta- Barry (Sheila) Zimmerman of Wapakoneta; seven grandchildren – Bryan (Misty) Kellerman of San Tan Valley, AZ; Chad (Angel) Fittro of Maricopa, AZ; Joshua (Kevin) Fittro of Lima; Scott (Trina) McCullough of Wapakoneta; Jason (Rebecca) McCullough of McKinney, TX; Trudy (Dennis) Risner of Columbus, Amie (John) Chiarucci of Columbus; fifteen great grandchildren – Caleb Winfield; Zach and Olivia Fittro; Caleb, Brandley, Alex, Caden, Luke, Emily, Hannah, and Haley McCullough; Jack and Lydia Risner; and Karina and Joseph Chiarucci.
He was preceded in death by a sister Audrey Myers.
Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 9, 2018 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Rev. Gale Gebhart and Chaplain Herbert Wilker will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Matthew Cemetery, near Cridersville.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Buckland United Church of Christ.
