Dean B. Metzger 84, of Wapakoneta died 5:00 p.m., Saturday Dec. 7 at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home. He was born Jan. 10, 1929 in Auglaize County to Grant Edward and Ida May Thomas Metzger. He married Angela Marie Owen March 21, 1951 and she preceded him in death Aug. 9, 1993.
Mr. Metzger had been a welder/ Trackman with CSX Transportation. He was a member of Wapakoneta First United Methodist Church, the Railroad Retirement Club, VFW Post 8445 and Eagles Aerie 691. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his harvest.
Survivors include 2 sons: Russell E. (Polly) Metzger and David L. Metzger, 2 daughters Barbara D. (Barry) Spicer and Betty J. Hertenstein all of Wapak, 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Luther Eugene Metzger, SR. and Leroy Metzger, 2 sisters Cleo Roth and Lucille Irwin, a grandson Shane Douglas Metzger and a granddaughter Jennifer Stelzer.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home Cridersville.
The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Lee officiating and burial will follow in St. Matthew Cemetery, where military rites will be provided by V. F. W. Post 8445
Memorial contributions may be given to First United Methodist Church.
