Della Rae Newfer, 82 of Cridersville, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord at 2:10 AM, Friday, November 10, 2023, at Lima Memorial Hospital (hospice care). She was born October 21, 1941, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Dorr White and Gertrude Mae Livenspire. On June 22, 1963, she married Norman Russell Newfer of Alger, OH.
Della was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In addition, she managed the clerical side of her husband’s businesses till her retirement. She loved poetry, sewing, and music. She was the church organist at Lima Baptist Temple in her early years. Then she began channeling her musical talent into children’s ministries. Her true delight, though, was writing her own music, specifically putting scripture to music as a tool for both children and adults to memorize God’s Word.
She was an active member at Lima Baptist Temple for 40 years and later attended Harvest Baptist Church (Wapakoneta) for many years. More recently, she and her husband began attending Grace Community Church (Lima) where they gained even more friends. She considered each church friend as family, and if anyone needed prayer over a matter, they could be assured that Mrs. Della Newfer would pray for them.
She was passionate about many things throughout her life, but foremost was her love for the Lord Jesus Christ. She shared the plan of salvation every chance she got. She was particularly passionate about spreading the Gospel to those around the world as directed in Mark 16:15. She and a friend worked together with volunteers to help assemble and ship teaching aids to missionaries worldwide. They based many of their teaching aids on the Wordless Book colors (black, red, white, gold). Each color represented a part of the plan of salvation. The dark color (black) represents our sinful hearts which can only be cleaned by accepting Jesus Christ’s death sacrifice for us. His blood (red) washes away our sins and leaves our hearts clean (white). Jesus said “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Because of His great love, we can one day spend eternity in heaven (gold) with Him.
The Simple Gift of Salvation:
Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 5:8 – “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 10:9-10 – “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Romans 10:13 – “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
