Rev. Donald E. Hurley, age 86 of Cridersville and formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 4:07 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement Community. He was born March 20, 1927 in Spencerville, Ohio; the son of the late Roy and Della Orchid Hurley. On May 14, 1947 he married Betty June Richardson who died October 31, 2011.
Rev. Hurley was a retired minister, tradesman, and mechanic. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during World War II and was a member of the Navy SeaBees. Don enjoyed woodworking and making bird houses, gardening, making his own beer and dandelion wine, and old Turner Classic movies. He was a self-taught “Jack of all trades”; taking apart machines and putting them back together, could wire anything, and was interested in everything. He also drove truck for Pepsi Company.
Survivors include 3 sons – Donald E. (Cheryl) Hurley, Jr. of Sevierville, TN; John W. (Lorraine) Hurley of Spencerville, OH; Dwight D. (Edna) Hurley of VA; a daughter – Cheryl A. (Michael) Teets of Erie, MI; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren;
Memorial services will begin 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 13, at Bayliff and Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Rev. Rick Lamb will officiate. Burial will follow at Spencerville Cemetery. Military rites will be observed by V.F.W. Post of 6772 of Spencerville.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 12, 2013 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.
