Donald E. Webb, 93, of Uniopolis passed away at 2:10 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Otterbein-Cridersville. He was born Dec. 3, 1923 in Union Twp. Auglaize County to the late John Wesley and Ida Belle Gross Webb. He married Mary Evelyn Bowman Sept. 16, 1945 and she preceded him in death Dec. 16, 2014.
Don was a member of Uniopolis United Methodist Church and a life member of V.F. W. Post 8445. He had served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He had served under General George Patton in the Third Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge as a tank commander and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was a former member of Wayne Lodge Free and Accepted Masons. Don also was a former: mayor, chief of police and councilman for Uniopolis. He retired as chief of Security at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar was a member of Classic Country Hall and Harps & Strings. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He loved his cat Homer.
Survivors include a daughter Elaine (Robert) Wenning of Uniopolis, 8 grandchildren: Michael (Judy) Wenning, Mark (Mindy) Wenning, Jason (Denice) Webb, Travis (Heather) Webb, Nicole (Norman) Jacobs, Christopher (Katie) Webb, Paula Lawrence and Rebecca (Ivan) Muslin , 17 great grandchildren, a great great grandson, 2 brothers: Ronald ‘Curly’ Webb and John ‘Bud’ Webb both of Uniopolis and a daughter-in-law Brenda Webb of Lakeview, OH.
He was preceded in death by a son Ronald Barton Webb, a great granddaughter Brittany Nicole Wenning, great grandson Jaiden Lawrence and sisters-in-law: Shirley and Pat Webb.
The family will receive friends 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 6 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville
The funeral will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday April 7 at the funeral home with Pastor Rod Ritchie officiating burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery near Uniopolis and military rites will be observed.
Memorial contributions may be given to Uniopolis Fire Department.
