Donald Hinegardner, age 72 died 7:07 a.m., Monday, February 17, 2014 in Lima Memorial Health Care System. He was born November 26, 1941 in Lima, Ohio to William and Opal Laing Hinegardner. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Lima. On June 26, 1960 he married Karen Sue Gossard, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Mr. Hinegardner retired after 30 years as a Master Scheduler with Westinghouse Corporation in Lima. He was a 1960 graduate of Cridersville High School. He was an active member of the Cridersville United Methodist Church. Loving the outdoors; he was an avid golfer, hunter, shot competitive archery, a registered tree farmer and a lifetime member of the N.R.A. He will be remembered for being a great preserver of wildlife and nature while also spending countless hours developing his property into something that his family and friends can forever enjoy.
His greatest source of joy and pleasure was his family. He shared much of his knowledge about the outdoors and life with them, and participated in many of his children and grandchildren’s functions. As an outstanding role model, coach and mentor our Husband, Father and Grandfather will be dearly missed.
Other survivors include his children – Ernest (Suzanne) Hinegardner of Wapakoneta; Michael (Christine) Hinegardner of Pittsburgh, PA; Dawn Hardin of Ft. Wayne, IN; Nancy (Tony) Meyer of Jackson Center; and Chuck (Laura) Hinegardner of Ft. Thomas, Ky; grandchildren – Sam and Will HInegardner; Shannon, Bridget, Brad, and Luke Hinegardner; Rachael, Julia, and David Hardin; Alex, Pauline, and Cassandra Meyer; Haley, Maggie, Davis, and Natalie Hinegardner; a great granddaughter – Isabella Hardin; step grandchildren – Jesslyn (Jon) Senecal; Heidi (Todd) Black, and Erin (Aaron) Schoeff; eight step great grandchildren; three brothers – William (Doris) Hinegardner of Dayton; Richard (Martha) Hinegardner of Lima; Dan (Pat) Hinegardner of Cridersville; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2014 at Cridersville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles Martindell will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cridersville United Methodist Church or the Cridersville School Scholarship Fund.
