Obituary

Douglas C. Harris age 77 of Lima passed away, Tuesday, June 22, 2021 with Judi beside him. He was born April 9, 1944 in Lima to the late Jack and Lucille (Ambos) Harris. Doug married Judi Lammers, his high school sweetheart, in 1964. They still love each other as much as the day the married.

He played sports in school and years of baseball and basketball in church leagues. He loved playing golf and tennis. He was a surveyor for Kohli and Kaliher Engineering and then worked as a chemical operator for British Petroleum for 18 years.

Doug had a work ethic that few could rival with an indelible spirit of entrepreneurship. Judi and Doug owned 2 Rudi’s Candies and Nuts candy stores in Lima and Findlay malls. They also owned 3 TCBY yogurt stores in Sidney, Piqua and Troy.

He was council president in Fort Shawnee and then became mayor of Fort Shawnee for 24 years. He was proud to help bring city water to Fort Shawnee.

He was very well read on many topics. The morning paper was always the start to his day. He always kept a manicured lawn with edger being his favorite tool.

He was a very tasteful dresser, enjoyed fine food, and appreciated sharp cars. He and Judi traveled with friends and family to many places. His favorites being Greece and Italy. Due to his love of history, Williamsburg was a special place close to his heart. Also, he loved river cruising on the Mississippi. While vacationing, he would visit waterfalls. He loved to sit, listen, and watch the falling waterfalls.

Doug liked to tease, joke, laugh, and celebrate Buckeye wins with friends. Doug and Judi have 2 children, Melissa (Tom) Schroeder, and Craig (Yumiko) Harris whom he loved very much. Erika and Dylan Harris made Papa very happy and blessed to have wonderful grandchildren. Doug and Judi attended Lima Community Nazarene Church for many years.

He has a brother John (Joyce) Harris. He was preceded in death by a brother – Mike Harris and in laws Butch and Elinor Lammers.

A special thank you to Dr. Nicholson for keeping Doug alive for years so we could enjoy life longer. Doug gave a big fight for 4 1/2 years against an awful cancer.

The journey is over on Earth where he touched many lives. The angels now came to take Mayor Doug Harris to meet the Mayor of Heaven.
