Douglas D. Smith age 58, of Cridersville and formerly of London, Ohio passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22 at his residence. He was born Oct. 21, 1960 in Lima to the late David Warren Smith and Evelyn Joann Neff survives in Cridersville. He married Susan Resch Aug. 6, 1988 and she survives in London.
Following high school Doug joined the Army, served 8 years and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service he attended Lima Tech and received an associates in engineering. He went on to get a bachelors in engineering from DeVry University. Doug had worked for Honda Transmission in Russells Point. He was a very active member of Shawnee Alliance Church where he participated in multiple activities. He was a sports fan focusing on the Indians, Browns and Ohio State.
Additional survivors include a son: Patrick Smith of London, Lyndsi Smith of London and Victoria Smith of Pensacola, Florida; sisters: Dawn Smith of Lima, Darcy (Jeffrey) Hetrick of Fairfield, Ohio and DeAnna (Tony) Barnes of Grove City and a brother Darby Smith of Whitehall and a step mother Dee Smith of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by a sister Denise Smith.
The family will receive friends 2-5 Sunday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville and 12:30 to 1:30 Monday at Shawnee Alliance. The funeral will follow at 1:30 with Pastor Daniel Messner officiating. Military rites will be observed and burial will be at a later date in St. Matthew Cemetery near Cridersville.
