Douglas McArthur Nickles, Sr., age 78 of rural Wapakoneta, passed at 4:02 p.m., Thursday, July 13, 2023 at his home with his loving family. He was born February 13, 1945 in Mousie, Kentucky to the late Hubert and Lucy Wicker Nickles. On August 22, 1970 he married the love of his life, Sheila Fay Williams and she survives.
Douglas was owner and operator of Douglas Nickles Home Improvement and was a proud Baptist. Besides being a dedicated purple martin enthusiast, he was also known for his large vegetable garden that he put out each year. He collected Ford 8N tractors and enjoyed watching his birds.
He is also survived by his two children – Douglas M. (Rageann) Nickles, Jr. of Cridersville and Theresa Nickles (Jason) Wilmoth of Wapakoneta; 7 grandchildren – Audreana (Joe) Schnarre, Jason (Alaina Fenton) Wilmoth, Jarrid Wilmoth, Emily (Jason) Farmer, Isaac Nickles, Nova Nickles, and Piper Nickles; 15 great grandchildren; 3 brothers – Harold Nickles of Lima; Bartee Nickles of Harrod; Bethel (Judy) Nickles of Lima; 3 sisters – Dallie (Lowell) Thomas of Lima; Mary Lou (Larry) Rapp of Lima; and Goldie (Joe) Davis of Michigan; 3 sister-in-laws – Eloise Nickles of Wapakoneta; Hallie Nickles of Harrod; and Kathryn Nickles of Lima.
He was preceded in death by 5 brothers – Ralph (Shredo) Nickles; James (Flossie) Nickles; Paul Nickles; Hillard Nickles and Don Nickles; a sister – Judy Bell Nickles, and a sister-in-law – Judy Nickles.
Funeral services will begin 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2023 at Cridersville Independent Baptist Church. Rev. Brandon Wireman will officiate, and Rev. Shane Wireman will assist.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2023 at the Cridersville Independent Baptist Church.
The family would like to acknowledge Legacy Hospice and thank them for the exceptional service. They provided much love, support, and patience through this time.

He will be greatly missed by his wife and family.
