E. Eugene ‘Gene’ Cornwell, age 87, of Lima died 5:00 a.m., Sunday Oct. 11, 2015 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born Nov. 30, 1927 in Middletown to the late Jack & Marie (Wysong) Cornwell.
Mr. Cornwell was a graduate of Middletown High School and Wittenburg University. He had served in the U. S. Navy and had achieved the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout award. He was an avid golfer and member of Shawnee United Methodist Church. Gene had been a long time service club member of Sertoma, Rotary and founding member of Filibusters. He retired from the Y.M.C.A. after 40 years of service and had served as Administrative Assistant for the city of Lima.
Gene is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marjorie Cornwell, a daughter: Linda (Steve) Hoover of Pataskala and a son Ted (Linda) Cornwell of Lima, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a sister Jackie Hanes of Florida.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Glenna Wilkerson and Cathy Cornwell.
Per his wishes, a private family service will be held. There will be no public visitation or services.
