Elizabeth Ann ‘Liz’ (Kortier) Sandy, age 80 of Lima and formerly of Delphos, died at 11:10 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. She was born April 18, 1931 in Delphos, Ohio. She is the daughter of Gilbert Arnold and Estella Mary Wikel Kortier. Both parents are deceased.
She is survived by 2 nieces – Estella (Terry) Davy of Lima; Julianna (Paul) Ford of Gomer; 1 nephew – Arnold (Cindy) Vasquez of Lima; other family members –Michael Ford, Gilbert (Nicki) Ford, Donovan (Tracy) Lewis, Seth (Jamie) Vasquez, and Alisha Vasquez, her former husband – Donald W. Sandy of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by a sister – Velma Julia Vasquez, who died October 12, 2008.
Mrs. Sandy was a waitress and a greeter at Waffle House, Lima for seven years; she was employed as a cook at Louie’s Nite Club for several years. She completed waitress training in 1972 at Indiana Vocational Technical College, Fort Wayne, Indiana and graduated Delphos Jefferson High School in 1948. She was a member of Cornerstone Harvest Church, Lima where she had served God as a greeter. She was outgoing and enjoyed meeting new people. She enjoyed worship music, shopping, cooking for others, and spending time with her family and friends. She was cared for at home by close friend and caregiver, Darlene (Rodney) Norris. She loved family, friends and her pet parakeet “Birdie”.
Memorial services will begin 11:00 a.m., Thursday April 7, 2001
at Cornerstone Harvest Church with Pastor Terry Vonderau officiating.
Burial of the cremated remains will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Fort Jennings.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to the donor’s choice.
