Elmer E. Hanes age 90, passed away at his home in Lima on February 10th, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born in Lima, Ohio to the late Irville and Edna (Delong) Hanes. He was united in marriage to Dolores Crow in 1950 and she preceded him in death in 2010.
Elmer was a veteran in the Army Infantry 243 Port Company long shoreman division, WW II. Elmer also leaves behind his two cats Blackie and Cali that he loved with all his heart; they were his best buddies.
Elmer worked for Turner Implement, Lima Baldwin Hamilton, Tank Plant and Berman Leasing (Refiners Transport) of Lima. Elmer was an avid fisherman, belonging to several bass clubs, also fishing for salmon and walleye. Elmer also loved being outdoors tending to his flowerbeds and garden.
Survivors include children: Michael (Kathy) Hanes, Jeffrey (Kim) Hanes, Denise (Greg) Parent, Kevin (Jacque) Hanes, Son Douglas Hanes deceased, Bryan (Carmen) Hanes, Nanette (William) Craig, Cathy (Craig) Craig. Elmer has 21 grand children and 17 great grandchildren with 2 of his grandchildren Ryan and Timothy deceased and was preceded in death by siblings Harold, Mildred (Dowing), Clifford and Russell.
The family will receive friends 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday Feb. 15, 2017 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, Ohio. The children will have a private burial at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to FISHERS OF MEN. In which Elmer, sons and grandsons enter in every year in memory of Doug’s tournament.
