Elmer S. Martin, Sr., age 81 of Wapakoneta, passed at 6:30 a.m., Monday, March 8, 2021 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born August 26, 1939 in Middlesboro, Kentucky to the late Curtis S. and M. Addie Daniels Martin. In 1960 he married D. Janette Thompson, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Mr. Martin retired after 35 years from Ford Motor Company and was an U. S. Army Veteran. He was a devoted member of the Lima Missionary Baptist Church and was an avid golfer belonging to the Colonial Golf Course. God and his family were the foundation in which he built his life. Elmer will be remembered for his strong faith and love of family.
Also surviving is a son – Elmer S. (Caron) Martin of Wapakoneta; a daughter – Sheila (Clifford) Hemmert of Galena, Ohio; 6 grandchildren – Joshua (Brittany) Murphy; Andrew (Alexis) Martin; Jordan (Ann) Martin; Taylor (Katie) Hemmert; Logan (Kyleigh) Martin; Lexi Hemmert; 5 great grandchildren – Braylon Patrick; Peyton Martin; Sadie Martin; Declan Murphy; Ophia Murphy and a little one, #6, on the way – Henry James Martin; brother and sister-in-laws – Billy Ray (Linda) Thompson; Jewell (Ronald) Martin; Joeann (John) Poe; Doug (Nancy) Thompson; Phyllis (Michael) Allemeier.
He was preceded in death by a brother and his wife – Melvin (Mary) Martin.
Funeral services will begin 12:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Lima Missionary Baptist Church, Lima. Rev. Terry Brock will officiate and Elmer’s grandson – Jordan Martin will assist. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima. Military rites will be observed by V.F.W. Post 1275 of Lima.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Thursday, at Lima Missionary Baptist Church.
