Elwood “Sonny” Boop age 88, of Lima, died 11:45 a.m., Friday Jan. 9 at his residence. He was born Sept. 7, 1926 to the late George Jacob and Anna Mae Harshbarger Boop. He married Eleaner I. “Hepsi” Davis Nov. 13, 1948 and she preceded him in death Jan. 28, 2009.
Mr. Boop was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and had served in the U.S Navy during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion and avid hunter. He was a farrier , showed horses and participated in rodeo contest. He was known as the neighborhood fix-it man.
Additional survivors include 5 sons: Steven (Linda), of Harrod, Bruce of Lima, Blaine of Lima, and Randy (Kelly) Boop of Naples, FL, a daughter: Kathy (Tom) Wukusick of Waynesfield, 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and a brother Leo (Cathy) Boop of Lima.
He was preceded in death by a son Kevin Boop and siblings Elsie Mae Van Dyke, Arthur Eugene Boop, Ruth Davis and Donald Joseph Boop.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.
The funeral will begin 1:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Arthur Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery and military rites will be observed.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Rita’s Hospice or to Immanuel Baptist Church.
