Evelyn Jean Long, age 89 of Lima, died at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 3, 2014 at Golden Living Center, Lima. She was born June 30, 1924 in Lima, Ohio; the daughter of the late George Dewey and Lenore ‘Peg’ Striff Geise. On May 9, 1946 she married Richard Edward Long who died October 26, 2009.
She is survived by three sons – Richard F. (Cathy) Long of Beaverdam, Ohio; Warren E. (Kathy) Long of Elida; Daniel M. (Mary) Long of Sidney; two daughters – Linda (Ray) Waxman of Lima; Joan (Stats) Mader of Port Jefferson, OH; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; a sister – JoAnn Wolgast of Lima; brother-in-law – Kenneth Lentz of Findlay; sister-in-law – Helen Long of Lima; Brother and Sister-in-law – Charles and Rosey Long of Michigan;
She was preceded in death by – two sisters – Mary Lou Lentz, Betty Lenore Ludwig and a step mother – Verna McGahan Geise.
Mrs. Long had worked in the cafeteria with the Shawnee School System and was a member of the First Church of God at the Crossroads. Her hobbies included playing the piano, writing poetry, and she greatly enjoyed reading the Bible. She was an outstanding woman who brought joy to everyone she met, was very generous and giving person, loved by everyone that met her.
Funeral services will begin noon on Thursday, at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
