Francis William ‘Bill’ Burtchin, age 90 of Lima, died Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 8:24 p.m., at his home. He was born October 25, 1924 in Logan Township, Auglaize County, Ohio; the son of the late Harry A. and Clara M. Bowsher Burtchin. On November 23, 1947 he married Joan Evon Stover, who died November 10, 1995.
Mr. Burtchin retired in 1990 from Russell Orchard Company. He was a U.S. Army WW II Veteran. He was a charter member of the Forest Park United Methodist Church where he was a lay leader, sang in the choir, had been a Sunday school teacher, and served on many committees. He was also a member of the Ft. Shawnee Lions Club, was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Survivors include 2 daughters – Tanya J. Snider of Cridersville and Tryna L. (Dean) Brown of Lima; 5 grandchildren – Jodi (Aaron) Long; Kerri (Mark) Tracy; Matthew (Megan) Snider; Stacee (Chris) Kalla; Cory (Ellen) Brown; 10 great grandchildren – Madelynn, Gabe, Megan, Marissa, Bridget, Clare, Norah, Kyle, Jenny-Lynn, and Jack.
He was preceded in death by a son – Todd W. Burtchin, who died January 9, 1991; a son-in-law – David Snider who died in 2001; 5 brothers – Donald, Harry, Howard, Eugene, and Richard Burtchin; and a sister – Elnore Jennings.
Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 23, 2015 at Forest Park United Methodist Church, Lima; Pastor Tim Benjamin will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Forest Park United Methodist Church to be used in the traditional worship service.
