Franklin D. Melton age 80, of Lima died 2:23 p.m., Tuesday Oct. 14 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born April 28, 1934 in Calumet City, IL to the late Lester and Virginia Shields Melton. He married Sylvia Buswell March 8, 1956 in Nashua, NH and she survives in Lima.
Mr. Melton graduated from Hammond Technical Vocational High School and attended Davenport College. He had worked for BP Chemical and Hamler Industries and was a US Army Korean War veteran. He attended Shawnee Alliance Church and enjoyed music- especially classical and southern gospel. He was very interested in history and focused on WW II.
Additional survivors include 3 sons: Lester Melton of Lima, Christopher Melton of Wapakoneta and Jeffrey (Tammy) Melton of Circleville; 5 grandchildren: Erik Melton, Brooke Day, Brittney Drake, Lucas Melton and Olivia Melton, 4 step- grandchildren: Melanie Hicks, Jay Newby, Johnny Newby and Cheyanne Listen; 4 great-grandchildren: Evan, Dominic, Baylee and Claire, a step great- grandson: Jensen; 3 sisters: Rose Martin of Delray Beach, FL, Delores (Joe) Davis of Madison, IN and Barbara (Brian) Roeder of Findlay.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Nicholas Dee Melton and a sister Rita Delehoy.
The family will receive friends 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday Oct. 18 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The funeral will follow at 10:30 with Rev. Shane Crites officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew Cemetery and military rites will be provided by V. F. W. Post 1275.
Memorial contributions may be given to Shawnee Alliance Church or to the Salvation Army.
