Obituary

Fredrick B. Brewster, age 95, of Bellefontaine, went home to his Lord and Savior at 8:53 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 13, 1922 in Spencerville, Indiana; the son of the late Fredrick Emerson and Nellie Bricker Brewster. On August 13, 1944 he married Doreen Alice Woods in London, England, who preceded him on February 3, 2012.

He is survived by two sons – Peter T. Brewster of Zanesfield; Michael (Terry) Brewster of Russells Point; five grandchildren – Keith (Tiffany) Brewster of Maumee, Gretchen (Shaff) Gorham of Bellefontaine, Holly Morris of Bellefontaine; Ivy Blythe of Russells Point; Kendra (Jim) Campbell of Zanesfield; five great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; a brother – Darrel Brewster of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Judy Weber; three sisters – Esther Miller, Alberta Heffelfinger, and Audrey Bell.

Mr. Brewster was a World War II U. S. Navy Veteran. After the war, he went to barber school in Columbus and then started Brewster Barber Shop in Bellefontaine. During this time he reenlisted into the U.S. Navy Reserve, and retired from the Navy in 1984. Being very civic minded, he was elected to the 4th Ward City Council and later became the Safety Service Director in Bellefontaine.

The church was very important to Mr. Brewster, and so he helped build the Calvary Baptist Church on Rush Avenue and several other churches in the area. He was a member of the Gretna Brethren Church where he enjoyed fellowship and singing and also sang in a local quartet.

Funeral services will begin 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Gretna Brethren Church, Bellefontaine. Rev Rob Starnes will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery where military rites will be observed.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church.

I was very sadden to hear of Fred’s passing. I have very fond memories of him from my high school days in the early 1950’s. He would always tell me to let my hair grow out because of the waves. My hair now looks just like his in this picture. Those haircuts were some of the best I ever had. He was a very kind man with a great sense of humor and always impeccably groomed and very handsome. Fred was a formidable role model and friend of my Dad. My heartfelt condolences to the family. May he Rest In Peace!
