Genevieve passed on February 11, 2023 at St. Rita’s Medical Center following an extended illness.
Genny was born in Germany to Polish national parents Joseph and Maria Wojdylo who were captured during the war and forced into labor. After the war the family spent time in the Displaced Person’s Camp in Wurtzburg, Germany before emigrating to the United States in 1952. They entered through the port of New Orleans eventually settling permanently in Norwich, Connecticut where she attended St. Joseph’s school and graduated from Norwich Free Academy. She received her hospital nursing certificate and worked at Norwich State Hospital when she met her husband Edward, who was enlisted in the U.S. Navy. The couple married and relocated to Lima, Ed’s hometown.
Genny had a varied nursing career working on med surg and ICU at Lima Memorial Hospital, at Lima State Hospital as a psychiatric nurse, a psychiatric nurse at St. Rita’s and as an assistant Director of Nursing and VP of Outpatient Services at Mary Rutan Hospital. She also was a Mary Kay cosmetics consultant. Genny was instrumental in the opening of her daughter – Alisa’s restaurant, Bistro on Main, in Findlay in 1993. She continued to be a restaurateur with the opening of the Main Street Bistro in Lima, the Fat Cat Dinner and the Purple Feet Wine Boutique. Genny was always kind hearted and always willing to help a needy cause be it taking care of stray animals or helping those in need. She loved flowers, plants and gardening and was involved with the Lima Master Gardeners.
Genny is preceded in death by her parents and a sister- Irene Stone.
She leaves behind her husband Edward; daughters – Corinne and Alisa; a granddaughter – Adelyn (Rob Farber fiance’), along with many nieces and a nephew.
Mass of Christian burial will begin 11:30 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2023 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Lima. Father Ross will officiate. Burial will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery, Lima.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Bayiff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.
