George Haliena, Jr. of Chesapeake, Virginia and formerly of Lima, passed at 9:01 a.m., Thursday, August 18, 2022 in Chesapeake. He was born November 9, 1924 in Lima, Ohio to the late George and Mary Raphel Haliena. On August 9, 1946 he married Mildred Bonita, who passed August 1, 2020.
Mr. Haliena retired from Teledyne Ohio Steel and was a U. S. Navy Veteran serving during World War II. He was a former member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lima and a former Fort Shawnee Councilman. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #96 and a member of the V.F.W. Post, Disabled Veterans Post 1, and the UAW.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter – Gary (Rita) Haliena of Seneca, South Carolina; George Michael (Theresa) Haliena of Defiance, Ohio and Candace (Richard) Hartwick of Chesapeake, Virginia; seven grandchildren – Aaron (Racheal Marie Holbrooks) Haliena, Sara Haliena Salaz, Grace Haliena, Eve (Brent) Dixon, Brian (Mallory) Haliena, Candace Alexandria Hartwick and Abigail Hartwick and five great grandchildren – Gabriel, Eli and Emalina Salaz, William Dixon and Maverick Holbrooks-Haliena; and a step great grandson – Alex Holbrooks.
He was preceded in death by a son – Paul Haliena; 3 sisters – Mary Gallaway, Betty Gordon and Marge Eyler.
Funeral services will begin 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2120 Lakewood Avenue, Lima, Ohio. Rev. Michael Phillips will officiate. Burial will follow in Shawnee Cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive friends from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., Saturday, August 27th at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville.
