Glenn L. McComas, 82, of Cridersville died 5:40 p.m., Friday Jan. 22 at Lima Memorial Health Systems. He was born Sept. 22, 1927 in Prestonsburg, KY to Ray and Maude Warrens McComas who both preceded him in death. On Oct. 24 he married Gertrude ‘Babe’ Combs who survives in Cridersville.
Mr. McComas retired after 36 years at Textron and formerly worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Lima, Ohio. He was a U. S. Army Veteran. Mr. McComas received the Carnegie Medal of Honor for outrunning a train on the Pennsylvania Railroad and scooping up and saving the life of a three year old little boy. Glenn was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved camping with his family and loved to play Euchre.
Survivors include 1 sister: Wanda Lambert of Lima, 4 children Jerry (Paula) McComas of Indianapolis, IN, Glenda Lee (Allen) McBride of Lima, Tamara (Patrick) Wascovich of Cedar Hill, TX and Timothy ‘Bo’ (Jackie) McComas of Lima; 11 grandchildren Misty Kishbaugh of Buckeye, AR, Brandy Williams of Indianapolis, Rachael Elizabeth (Cameron) Burwell of Indianapolis, Jamie (Troy) Shade of Wapakoneta, Sunny (Jeremy Magrum) Butler of Lima, Staci (Doug) Corsaro of Lima, Penny Wascovich of Ft. Wayne, IN, Kirk Wascovich of Cedar Hill, TX, Tammy Davis of Iron River, MI, Ryan McDonald of Lima, and Cheyenne (Robert) Lopez of Lima and 11 great grandchildren Atlanta, Athan, Payton, Parker, Gage, Carter, Jasmine, Katelyn, Daniel, Austin and Logan.
He was preceded in death by a brother Edwin McComas.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, Brother Mosley will officiate and burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima., Military rites will be provided by V. F. W. Post 8445.
The family will receive friends 4 – 8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
