Glenna L. Kimmel, age 92 of Lima, passed at 6:27 p.m., Thursday, June 8, 2023 at St. Rita’s Mercy Health. She was born September 3, 1930, at home in Allen County, Ohio to the late Ivan Glen and Gladys Leola Campbell Phillips. On November 3, 1957 she married Gerald ‘Gene’ Kimmel who passed in 1992.
Mrs. Kimmel retired as a switchboard supervisor with Lima Memorial Hospital. She was a very proud active member of the Democratic Women’s Caucus and loved debating politics. She was a very talented artist, and it showed in her scrimshaw work and she loved to read. She will be remembered for her love of family, the special times they spent together, and her inner strength, unbending in what she believed in.
Glenna is survived 2 daughters – Jackie (Bo) McComas of Lima; Janis Daley of Lima; 9 grandchildren – Shawn (Missy) Bowers; Jason (Nikki) Bowers; Cheyenne (Robert) Lopez; Ryan (Kristin) McDonald; Tammy McComas; Tessa Gamble; Mike Engberg; Audrey (Toby Adams) Engberg; Jasmine McComas; 25 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; and a son-in-law – James Rable of Lima.
She was preceded in passing by a son – Mikey Kimmel; 2 daughters – Debra K. Rable; Sally Gamble; 3 brothers – Ben Phillips, Richard Phillips, and Donald K. Phillips; 2 great grandsons – Brady Bowers and Glenn McComas; 2 sisters – Peggy Phillips and a very special, dear sister Betty Gibson; and a son-in-law – Kevin Daley of Lima.
She will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Memorial contributions may be made to Veteran’s Food Pantry or the VFW Honor Guard.
Glenna wanted to acknowledge with a very special ‘Thank You’ to Pastor Bo McComas for reading the Bible to her; and Austin Lopez, her great grandson for discussing the Bible with her. Glenna loved discussing and having Bible studies with her family.
The family is very grateful for the exceptional care of St. Rita’s heart surgeons, for their compassionate care. The Kimmel family appreciated everything they did and it truly melted their hearts with the love they were shown.
