Grace Emily (Monroe) Kirian
She fell asleep in the Lord at 5:22pm Otterbein – Cridersville, where she had been residing since 2014. Grace was born June 13, 1926 in Asheville, North Carolina to Glenworth Charles & Anna (Mahaney) Monroe who preceded her in death. Her father worked for the TVA as a construction worker on the dams so they moved several times as the location of work changed for her family. One of the places was Ithaca, New York She had her first plane ride in a 2 seater open cockpit piloted by Wiley Post who was a friend of her father. She often remarked about her many adventures while living in the various locations with her brothers and sister. Her father was killed in a construction accident while working on the Chickamauga dam in Tennessee. The family then moved to Toledo when Grace was 9.
She met Virgil Kirian when she was around 16 and married him October 5, 1942. She attended Waite High School. She lived with her in-laws while Virgil went to war. She worked at Champion Spark Plug and American Canning while he was gone. When Virgil returned they remained in Toledo until his death in 2003.
Grace is survived by sons Christopher C. (Polly) Kirian and Gary A. Kirian, grandchildren Joshua (Michelle) Kirian, Jeffrey ( Melissa) Kirian, Christina (John) Dean, Travis Kirian great-granchildren Riley,Teagan, Grady, Jacob. Evelyn and Liliana. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews
Grace was preceded in death by her Virgil, her brothers Glenn (Catherine) Monroe, Donald (Mary Ellen) Monroe, Walter ( Betty ) Monroe, Eleanor (Edward) Henzler, William Monroe, sister in law Doris (Clayton) Groll, neice Patricia Duty, Kelly Duty. nephews Gene Monroe,Doug (Patricia) Henzler
Grace was a master at sewing and tailoring clothes, knitting and writing rhyming poetry. She was always up for a challenge like learning to play the organ in her 60’s. She encouraged all in a positive manner to strive for the best life,whether it be healthy habits, daily reading of the Bible or exploring the world through books and travel
Grace loved the Lord and attended the Toledo Christadelphian Ecclesia.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 8, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. A graveside service will be held Sunday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery, Toledo
