Harold F. “Nick” Carder, of Lakeview and formerly of Cridersville died Tuesday Sept. 11, 2018 after a long battle with kidney disease. He was 72. He was born Dec. 1, 1945 in Lima to the late Wilbur Silas and Erma Jeanette Alford Carder. He married Della Ann Musselman on Nov. 10, 1962 and she preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 2009 after 47 years of marriage. On May 20, 2011 he married Jeannette S. Simpson and she survives in Lakeview.
He worked from the age of 14 at many jobs to support his family and retired from Ford Motor Company in 2007. He had worked for the Cridersville Police Department and Allen County Sheriff’s Auxiliary for several years. He truly enjoyed helping family and friends, fishing, hunting and garage sales. He never met a stranger and loved to tell stories. He also loved animals, especially dogs, old cars and going to car shows. He was a former member of the Wapak Eagles and had served on Cridersville village council.
He is survived by 4 sons: Jeffrey Carder, Joe (Susie) Carder, Mark (Krystal) Carder and Timothy (Jill Kraft) Carder all from the Lima area, grandchildren Cody (Halley Carder of Lima, Ashlee (Matt) Slavin, Alexis (Andy) Blum and Hillary Carder of Minster, Josh Carder and Kaitlyn Carder of Elida, Logan, Kyleigh (Logan Martin), Zach and Seth Carder all of Cridersville. Nick was great grandfather to 2, soon-to-be three great grandchildren; 3 step children: Sara (Bryan) Holliday, Lee (Tiffany) White and Dorothy White, 8 step grandchildren: Bryan Jr., Andera, Sierra, Skyler, Meako, Mersaides, Serenity and Aaron. He is also survived by a mother-in-law Anna L. Cordon of Cridersville, sisters-in-law Judy Clayton of Michigan, Susan A. Carder of Las Vegas, Chris (Ron) Kemper of Elida and Lorree Pavisil of Lima, a brother-in-law Kyle Condon of Charleston, SC and several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Chuck and Melvin Carder, sister-in-law Jean Carder, brother-in-law Jim Clayton and father-in-law John E. ‘Jack’ Condon.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14 at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum, Lima with Pastor Shane Crites will officiate, and the family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be given to Deb’s Dogs.
