Irene Louise Cole
89, went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2011 in Cridersville, Ohio. Irene was the daughter of the Reverend Emory Ray and Ohla (Cave) Cole.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Virginia Kraner (James) of Sun Lakes, Arizona, and a brother the Reverend Robert Cave Cole (Adele Sue) of Buckhannon, West Virginia. She is the beloved aunt of seven nieces and nephews including Susan Kraner Trumble, Littleton Colorado; Sarah Kraner Allen, Lake Bluff, Illinois; James Cole Kraner, Charleston, West Virginia; Keith Ray Cole, Nashville, Tennessee; Lt. Colonel Timothy Andrew Kraner, Bossier City, Louisiana; Robert Dean Cole, Nashville, Tennessee; and the Reverend James Emory Cole, Nashville, Tennessee and six grand nieces and nephews.
Irene attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and graduated from Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio. She later completed two master’s degrees in Library Science and Education. Irene was called to serve as a home missionary with the United Evangelical Brethren Church/United Methodist Church at the McCurdy School in Santa Cruz, New Mexico from 1944 to 1997. She taught high school math, chemistry and general science and later served in the McCurdy church relations department. Irene moved to Otterbein Cridersville in 1997 where she was a volunteer for over 12 years at the Cridersville Elementary School and was an associate member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Lima, Ohio.
Services will be held at Otterbein Cridersville Community Room 100 Red Oak Drive, Cridersville, Ohio on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 4pm with Pastor Phyllis Fetzer officiating.
A second service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, Septrmber 25 at Santa Cruz United Methodist Church in Espanola, New Mexico. Interment will be at the Loma Linda Cemetery in Alcalde, New Mexico 4:00 p.m., Monday September 26, where Irene will be laid to rest with her “McCurdy Family” in the mountains of Northern New Mexico which she so dearly loved.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial gifts made be made in the name of Miss Irene Cole to the McCurdy School, 261 S. McCurdy Road, Espanola, New Mexico 87532
