Iva L. Kiser-Dowler, age 98, of Cridersville died 12:56 p. m. Monday May 21, 2012 at Otterbein-Cridersville. She was born Nov. 16, 1913 in Duchouquet Township Auglaize County Ohio to C. Cal and Dorothea Naumberg Carter. She married Vernon Lyle Kiser May 23, 1936 and he preceded her in death May 9, 1995. She later married John Russell Dowler of West Milton June 13, 1998 and he preceded her in death Dec. 18, 2000.
Iva graduated from Blume High School in 1931 and Bowling Green University in 1933 with a teaching certificate and later from Ohio Northern University with a bachelors in 1962. She had been a school teacher, teaching at the Parlette one room schoolhouse from 1934 to 1936 and in Noble Township from 1956 to 1958 and then at Cridersville Public School until 1974. She had been a member of Cridersville United Methodist Church since the 40s. She had been a very active member having held several offices, taught Sunday School and participated in several ladies circles. She was also a member of the Auglaize County Farm Bureau, Auglaize County and Ohio Retired Teachers Associations, also Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Survivors include a son: Dr. Harvey (Janet) Kiser of Manhattan, KS and a daughter Sandra L. (James) Miller of Toledo, 7 grandchildren: David (Marcie) Kiser of Estes Park, Colorado, Karen (Richard) Remsing of Waynesburg, PA; Annette (Todd) Kennedy of Phillipsburg, KS, Marilee (Michael) Edwards of Olathe, KS, Douglas (Tina) Miller of Toledo, Stephen (Shylah) Miller of Toledo and Philip (Sara) Miller of Carey, OH; 17 great grandchildren; a sister: Cleola (Homer ‘Pete’) Helmlinger of Wapakoneta and a sister-in-law Marie Carter also of Wapakoneta.
She was preceded in death by a brother Ira Homer Carter.
Funeral service will begin 5:00 p. m. Sunday May 27 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville with Rev. Jerry Wiles and Rev. Nola Heilman officiating and burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery Wapakoneta. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Cridersville United Methodist Church, Otterbein-Cridersville or the V. Lyle Kiser Conservation Education Fund c/o Wapakoneta Foundation.
