Jack P. Moots, age 87 of Wapakoneta, died at 5:30 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2011 in Auglaize Acres Nursing Home. He was born March 23, 1924 in Lima, Ohio. He is the son of Maynard Phinton and Sarah Mae Moffitt Moots. Both parents are deceased. On April 2, 1945 he married Dorothy Eileen Kaufman, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Mr. Moots had been a manager with National Church Residences and an assistant warehouse manager with Fisher Cheese Company in Wapakoneta for 20 years. He had attended the First United Methodist Church in Wapakoneta and Cridersville United Methodist Church.
He was a decorated U. S. Marine Corps World War II Veteran, receiving several medals including the Purple Heart. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8445, the Eagles Lodge #691 both of Wapakoneta, and D.A.V. – Buckeye Chapter 8 of Cincinnati.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing and bowling. He loved his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Other survivors include 5 children – Michael (Janet) Moots of Marietta, Georgia; Patricia (fiancée Mike Lotz) Salmons of Wapakoneta; Jacqueline (Dwayne) Axe of St. Marys; Kevin (Mary) Moots of Lima; Shellie (Virgil) Schnarre of Wapakoneta; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 brother – Joe A. Moots of Bradenton, Florida.
He was preceded in death by a sister – Betty Jean Moots.
Memorial services will begin 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, where military rites will be observed by the V.F.W. Post 8445 of Wapakoneta.
The Rev. Rick Lamb will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or to donor’s choice.
