James A. Shingledecker, age 81 of Lima, died at 6:30 a.m., Thursday May 28, 2015 at his residence. He was born February 2, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio; to the late Arthur and Helen Jane Adams Shingledecker. On June 14, 1966 he married Shirley Naumburg, who survives.
Mr. Shingledecker retired from Ford Motor Company and was a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and a member of the V.F.W. Post 1275 of Lima. He belonged to the Allen County Archers, was a licensed pilot, and worked at the Allen County Airport.
Survivors also include 12 children – Harold (Katie) Brooks of Dudley, NC; Rebecca ‘Becky’ (Terry) Retherford of Odessa, TX; Deb (Joseph) Veshinfsky of Catasauqua, PA; Brenda White of Orange, TX; David (Susan) Brooks of Lancaster, CA; Steve Brooks of Bowling Green, KY; Bill (Marieka) Shingledecker of Lima; Barb (Larry) McVicker of Lima; Lisa Patton of Wapakoneta, OH; Victoria (Chris) Crews of Galveston, TX; Dorothy (Mike) Patton of Harrod, OH; James (Robin) Patton of Winchester, KY; 26 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; a sister – Peggy (Tom) Heffner of Lakeview, OH.
He was preceded in death by a great grandchild and a brother – Captain Armond D. Shingledecker who died in 1966 in Viet Nam.
Private family services were held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
