LIMA — James L. Tarter, 92, died at 6:42 p. m. Sept. 16, 2012, at Kindred Hospital.
He was born Dec. 31, 1919, in Wytheville, Va., to Lacy Mathias and Georgia Lambert Tarter, who preceded him in death. On June 24, 1939, he married Marjorie R. Morgan, who died Oct. 19, 2010.
Mr. Tarter had been a machinist for D. T. & I. Railroad. He was a member of the International Association of Machinist, Perry Township Lions Club and Perry Township Fire Department. He enjoyed his family, gardening, hunting and all animals. He had been a part-time farmer.
Survivors include two sons, John L. (Claudia S.) Tarter, of Dayton, and Daniel M. Tarter, of Trenton, Mich.; two daughters, Vickie (Robert) Bidwell, of Wapakonata, and Glenna (Dwane) Smith, of Edgerton, of Kansas; a brother, Randolph (Peggy) Tarter, of Benton City, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Brian Bidwell, Brad Bidwell, Greg Tarter, Jennifer DeFinis, Erika Tarter, Michelle Sievers, Matthew Tarter and Brandon Smith; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James M. Tarter; three brothers, Fred, Elbert and Clayton Tarter; and four sisters, Lucille Grubb, Martha Zeppatella, Eleanor Atkinson and Louise Perrie.
Private family services will be held Thursday.
