Janet Backus age 79, of Delphos, passed away 12:05 a.m., Friday, June 25, 2021 at St. Rita’s. She was born Sept. 19, 1941 in Lima to the late Ellis and Opal (Brenneman) May.
She was previously married to Rex Hawkins who survives and preceded in death by husband Stanley Backus.
Janet loved her animals, NFL and tap dancing. After her family came her love of Wal Mart, she loved being a greeter on the west side of Lima. Janet was also a great baker, known for her huge buckeyes.
Survivors include daughters: Brenda (Joel) Young of Delphos and Nicky Myers of Delphos, 5 grandchildren: Jamie Wise, Ashley Neely, Sam Young, Natalie Myers and Noah Young and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son Rex Allen Hawkins and 2 brothers: Norman and Gordon May.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, August 28th from noon to 4 at Kendrick Woods Maple Shelter.

I first met Jan back in 1990 when we both worked at Lazurus. Years later we worked at Walmart together. The first time she was catching the bad guys. Then it was my turn! We swapped stories of our successes and had a lot of laughs. What a beautiful lady inside and out. She will be greatly missed.
