Jeanne Ellen Schrader Gamble went to be with her Heavenly Father Friday, December 23, 2022, at The Ohio State University Medical Center East.
Jeanne was born August 18, 1939, in Bellefontaine, the daughter of Woodrow V. and Dorothy Lynn Schrader, who preceded her in death. Jeanne married Charles H. Gamble, Sr. on November 15, 1958, in Indiana. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2003.
Jeanne is survived by four children: Charles H. (Diana) Gamble, Jr. of DeGraff, Jeffrey L. (Julie) Gamble of Bellefontaine, Jennifer A. (Kurt) Penhorwood of Zanesfield, and Dr. Christopher M. (Karen) Gamble of Bellefontaine. Also, eighteen grandchildren: Rebecca (Kyle) Lentz of Bellefontaine, Emily (Jerrod) Henry of West Liberty, Brittni (Chris) Scott of Wheeling, WV, Breanne Gamble of Columbus, Brice (Jessica) Gamble of Marysville, Nathalie (Isaiah) Higgins of Tucson, AZ, Katharine Thompson of Circleville, Brandon, Conner and Zane Gamble of Bellefontaine, Colton Clapp and Cody (Shelby) Clapp of Bellefontaine, Brock (Kaitlyn) Penhorwood of Zanesfield, Bryden Penhorwood of Columbus, Mataya and Karlie Penhorwood of Zanesfield, Nick and Hannah Young of Bellefontaine. Also, twenty-one great grandchildren. Jeanne is also survived by two sisters: Judy (Honorable Ronald E.) Hadley, and Joan Smith of Bellefontaine, and several nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was also preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Patricia A. Knief Gamble, son-in-law, Nathan R. Thompson, and brother-in-law, Richard A. Smith.
Jeanne was a 1957 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and attended Wittenberg University. She took time off to raise her family. She later attended Urbana University where she graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1979.
Jeanne served as a bookkeeper for the Urbana Daily Citizen and retired from Urbana University serving as an administrator in the library for more than 37 years.
Jeanne was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Bellefontaine, a previous member of Philadelphia Lutheran Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, organist, and a member of Ladies Aid. She also served as a member of TWIG in Urbana, Kings Daughters in DeGraff, and Johnny Appleseed Society.
Jeanne enjoyed reading, music, camping, traveling, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Friends may call on Thursday, December 29th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Bellefontaine First Lutheran Church, 208 W. Sandusky Avenue, Bellefontaine. Funeral will be held at the church on Friday, December 30th at 11:00 am with Pastor Larry Novak officiating. Burial will follow in New Philadelphia Cemetery, West Liberty. The family is being served by Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, Ohio.
