Jeffrey Carl Freitag, age 75 of rural Cridersville, (formerly of Eldridge, Iowa) passed at 7:24 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born October 30, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Arthur Henry and Lois Luella (Thompson) Freitag, Jr. On June 30, 1967 he was blessed in marriage to Anita Weidenbach, who survives.

Mr. Freitag retired as a seating and mobility specialist from the Reflections Medical and Mobility Company. Jeff was a lifelong member of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sidney. He was a proud United States Air Force Vietnam Veteran and his hobbies included golf, bowling, model rockets and trains.

He was an avid Chicago Sports fan, except for the White Sox and loved to root on Alabama. “Roll Tide Roll” Jeff believed in community and was an active supporter of The Wapakoneta Athletics Department. He loved attending Wapak sporting events especially watching his grandchildren and cheering them on. His greatest pride was his family and spending time with them. He will be remembered for his love and dedication to his family and his playful nature, especially when they would go out to eat, teasing the servers.

He is the honored father of – Timothy J. (Petie) Freitag of Wetumpka, Alabama; daughter – Dawn M. (Eric) West of Cridersville; the proud grandpa of 5 – Courtney (Joe Goude) Freitag, Jenelle (Luis) Gonzalez, Michaella Freitag, Taylor West, and Austin West; proud great grandpa of Miguel Gonzalez and Axel Goude;. Brother of Allen (Barb) Freitag of Joliet, Illinois; Steve (Pat) Freitag of Plain City, Ohio; Scott Freitag of Kankakee, Illinois; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his best 4 legged buddy – Nutmeg the cat.

A sister Barbara Jo Freitag preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sidney.

Funeral services will begin 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 300 West Mason Road, Sidney.

We are very saddened with the passing of Jeff. My founders memories were at the bowling alley when we all played in couples league. He liked to tease and joke around and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Our continued prayers for Anita, Dawn and his family.

I lived across the street from the Freitag's till I was 18. I remember Jay (that's what we called him back then) mostly in his uniform when he came home on leave. And then when he married Anita. He will be forever young in my memories. Rest with Angels, Jay.

Prayers and love for you and your family. Jeff was a fun guy. I enjoyed time spent with you both in Park View.

Jeff and I were friends throughout our school years and afterwards, partly because in the days of alphabetical seating we were always next to each other but also because he was a good person. We lost touch when life took us to different parts of the country. His passing leaves a void. My sincere condolences.
