Jerry Trent VanHyning, 64, went home to be with Jesus on March 22 with his family by his side. He was born July 2, 1947 to John R. and Reita M. (Kelsey) VanHyning, who preceded him in death.
Mr VanHyning attended Bellefontaine High School and served in the US Navy from 1966 to 1970, and was a decorated Vietnam War Veteran. He attended Trinity Wesleyan Church in Lima. He enjoyed playing his harmonica and making people smile. He is lovingly remembered for his quick sense of humor, giving nature, and love for his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include five daughters: Mindy Thatcher of Lima, Dawn (Todd) Eccard of Delphos, Jeri Moyes (Dave Stevenson) of Lima, Kathi Houston (Alex Grunden) of St Mary’s, and Candice (Josh) Robinson of Canal Fulton. Two brothers: Max (Judy) VanHyning of Pittsburgh, PA; John (Sheryl) VanHyning of East Ridge, TN. Three sisters: Susi (Doug) Mackesy of Lakeview, Marna (Richard) McKinney of Nashville, TN, Mary (Rex) Gilbert of Wapakoneta. Ten grandchildren: Zachary, Tabitha, Geordan, Denise, Alixandra, Trenton, Dalton, Lane, Konnor, Micah, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two granddaughters: Hope Marie VanHyning and Sophia Jane Moyes.
Funeral service will begin at 7:00 p. m. Monday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home Cridersville, his brother Max VanHyning will officiate the service. The family will receive friends 3 hours prior to services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to The Disabled American Veterans.
