Joan Lee Sockrider

Joan Lee Sockrider, age 85 of Lima, and formerly of Florida, passed peacefully at 8:11 a.m., Sunday, June 4, 2023 in Lima, Ohio.  She was born on September 3, 1937 in Lima, Ohio  to the late Galvin Eugene and Isabelle Hamman Butterfield.  On June 17, 1955 she married William Sockrider who passed November 21, 2015.

Mrs. Sockrider was a loving and proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and she was always happiest when her family was around.  She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.  In her younger years, she loved working with horses and getting them ready to show.  In Florida, she belonged to the Red Hat Ladies group and enjoyed all the activities they participated in.  She loved the outdoors, playing golf, and playing cards.

She is survived by a son – Ronald W. (Terri) Sockrider of Florida; 2 daughters – Melody L. (Ronald) Hogan of Iowa; Tamara S. (Dennis) Ochs of Lima; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and a sister – Barbara Dawson of West Virginia.

Preceding her in passing are 2 sons – Jerry L. Sockrider; John Robert ‘Jack’ Sockrider; a grandson, a great grandson; and a brother – Harry Butterfield.

A memorial service will begin 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1976 Spencerville Road, Lima. Pastor Carl Brooks will officiate.
