John Bylsma, age 87, died on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Shawnee Manor, Lima. He was born in Warten, The Netherlands, on August 6, 1926 as ‘Tjibbe Bijlsma’ to Wiebe and Sepkje Bijlsma and they preceded him in death. He changed his name upon immigration to the United States in 1958. In 1949, he married Jacoby Aldonso vanMotman (Joyce) who preceded him in death on April 26, 2006. A second wife, Jean, also preceded him in death in March, 2010.
John served in the Dutch Armed Forces, loved to travel the world, and was fluent in multiple languages. His passion was soccer, as he had played on a Dutch amateur team. He had owned several businesses. He also loved animals and bowling.
Surviving: 3 daughters and a son — Carla (Louie) Barbicas of Fairlawn, Alice of Cuyahoga Falls, Lucie (Scott) Hinshaw of North Canton and Walter (Shenandoah) of Lima; 3 stepchildren: Dale Miksch of Georgia, Carol Miksch of Ohio and Erv Miksch of Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Elias, John, Matthew, Joel and Jessica; 2 great grandchildren: Mercedes and Isabella; 5 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gerben.
Calling hours will be 1:00-3:00 pm and 5:00-7:00 pm with Funeral services immediately following on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, OH. Michael Roebuck will be officiating.
