Obituary

John D. Newman, Sr., age 80 of Lima died 8:56 p.m., Wed. March 16, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 12, 1936 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Dorven John and Gretna Gibbs Newman. He married Carolyn V. Blackstock July 23, 1956 and she preceded him in death Oct. 31, 2009.
Mr. Newman had served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He had been a welder with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 776 and was a member of the V. F. W. Post 1275 and the American Legion Post 96.
Survivors include 3 sons: John Dale (Barbara) Newman, Jr. of Lima, Joseph Dorven (Becky) Newman of Lima, and James Daniel (Jennifer) Newman of Ohio City; 4 daughters: Theresa (Kenny) Mauk of Spencerville, Lynn Baker of Rockford, Pam (Matt) Harris of Wapak and Sherie Fairchild of Sidney; 14 grandchildren: Sasha, Amanda, Kenyon, Danae, Jona, Kalin, Zachary, Emily, Lucas, Nick, Kassandra, Brooke, Kennedy and Samantha, 19 great grandchildren and a sister Jean James of Tarpon Springs, FL.
The family will have a gathering Wed. March 30 from 4-7 p.m. at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. A brief service will be held at 7 followed by military rites provided by V.F. W. Post 1275.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Allen County Veteran Service Office.
