John H. Copeland, age 92, of Bluffton and formerly of Wapakoneta and Lima died 9:20 p.m. Saturday Nov. 7 at the Bluffton Mennonite Home. He was born Oct. 7, 1923 in Auglaize County to the late Ray and Minne Hartung Copeland. He married Bernice D. Gesler June 22, 1991 and she preceded him in death July 19, 2008.
Mr. Copeland was a member of Southside Christian Church, the Lima Elks and the Wapak Country Club, where he had been an avid golfer. He had been a banker and worked with several institutions, retiring from Home Savings and Loan. He had served in the U.S. Air Force during WW II.
Survivors include a stepdaughter: Bonnie Copeland of Baltimore, MD, a step son-in-law Rick Meisner of Dallas, TX and 3 step grandsons: Justin (Melanie), Nicholas and Christopher (Mary) Meisner, step great grandchildren Ellie, Jessa, Liam and Vincent, nephews Larry and John Kresser and special friends Gail & Scott Spiridigliozzi of Bluffton.
John was preceded in death by a stepdaughter: Robin Meisner and a sister Mary Belle Kresser.
The funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home with Chaplain Bill Herr officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery near Uniopolis.
The family will receive friends from 10 until the time of service at the funeral home.
