John R. Nixon age 76, of Wapakoneta died 6:30 p.m., Saturday Dec. 17, 2011 at Lima Memorial Health Systems. He was born July 27, 1935 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to George Jefferson and Stella Pearl Bartlett Nixon, Sr. who preceded him in death. He married Barbara Ann Hefner Jan. 8, 1956 and she survives in Wapakoneta.
John had been a lifelong farmer having served on the Allen County Fair Board for many years and been inducted in to the Allen County Agricultural Society Hall of Fame this past fair season. He was responsible for bringing in big name entertainment and making donations to the Jr. Fair Livestock Auction among other contributions. He had graduated from Shawnee High School in 1953. He cherished spending time with his family and his grandchildren were the light of his world.
Survivors include a son Mark Alan (Merry) Nixon of Wapak and a daughter: Jolene Ann (Mark) Waitman of Waynesfield, 2 grandchildren: Kyle A. Waitman and Brock D. Waitman, a brother George Jefferson Nixon, Jr. of Lima.
He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Roy Moses Nixon and William Robert Nixon and 3 sisters Ruth Marie Wolverton, Beatrice Kerr and Mary Lee Gerrard.
The funeral service will begin 10:30 a. m. Wed. Dec. 21 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home Cridersville with Pastor Katie Hayes officiating, burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery near Uniopolis.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p. m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Allen County 4-H program, Allen County Fair Building Fund or the Waynesfield United Methodist Church.
