Johnnie DeVoe ‘JD’ Bales, Sr. age 96, of St. Mary’s died 6:20 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019 at Grand Lake Health Care. He was born July 11, 1922 in Duval County, Jacksonville, Florida to the late Robert Mathew and Myrtle Moore Bales. He married Elizabeth ‘Anna Be’ Newborn in 1946 and and she preceded him in death in 2004. They had 2 sons. Robert F. (DeeAnn) Bales of Umatilla, FL and Johnnie Bales Jr. of Butte, MT, also surviving are 3 grandchildren.
JD had served in the U. S. Army, Air Force and Marines. He retired from Florida Rock Industries, INC. In 2007 he moved to St. Mary’s and stayed with Donna Fisher until he went into the nursing home two weeks ago.
