Juanita L. Beckett

Juanita C. Beckett of Spencerville, passed away at 5:15 a.m., Monday October 2, 2017, at Roselawn Manor. She was born Nov. 13, 1924 to the late William Merrill Cannon and Mary Agnes Holtz of Columbus, Oh.
“Nita” Was a college beauty with a brilliant mind attending Ohio State University as a pre-med student.
She married Harold I. Beckett Aug. 30, 1947, who survives in Spencerville Oh.
She was passionate about her gardens and loved being outdoors; being one of the first Master Gardeners and was selected Gardener of the year by the state of Ohio. She was a floral designer and judge for many local fairs and shows, as well as the Ohio State Fair. She achieved the second highest level in Ikebana floral arranging and was an active member of the Elida Garden Club. She was also politically involved, holding several offices in Lima’s League of Women Voters and represented the Club at several capital and state functions. She even was a temporary Shawnee Township Trustee.
Additional survivors include 2 sons: Thomas M. Beckett of Spencerville; Jeffery W. Beckett (Annie Welch) of Cut Bank, Mt., a brother Jack Cannon of Columbus and three sisters: Jean Fisher of Hilliard, Ann Lorenz, and Cherry (Russell) Thompson of Columbus, Oh.
She was preceded in death by a brother William Thomas Cannon, sister-in-law Natalie Cannon and brother-in-law’s Ed Fisher and Tom Lorenz.
A private family service will be at Nita’s request.
