Kenneth R. Emig, age 93, of Columbus, and formerly of Lima, died at 9.54 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Mt. Carmel West Hospital, in Columbus. He was born February 1, 1923, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Edward L. and Rosetta Hager Emig. In 1942, Kenneth married Mary E. Klingler, who preceded him in death. On December 23, 1960, he married Mary E. Haver, who died June 22, 2016.
Mr. Emig was a retired roofer and metal worker and owner of K.R. Emig Roofing & Spouting. He joined the Civillian Conservation Corps as a teen and went in the Army in 1943, serving in India. After the war, he worked on W.P.A. projects, building dams and swimming pools in Utah for 50 cents a week. He portrayed Santa Claus (a natural look-alike) for many years in California, Missouri and Ohio. He rode Harley Davidson motorcycles until he was 79 years old, and enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing pool and card games.
Survivors include 2 daughters – Shelley Emig (Joseph) Hutson of Eugene, Oregon; Merry Christine (Dana) McCain of Columbus; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
Preceded in Death by his daughter, Maralee L. Goble; a brother – Charles Emig; and 3 sisters – Esther Lange, Miriam Bowersock Hedrick and Maxine Vagedes.
Memorial services will begin at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 26, at New Faith Missionary Church, 1660 Lutz Rd. Rev. Rick Hart will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
Burial of the cremated remains will be in Fletcher Cemetery at a later date.
