Obituary

Kermit G. Kindred, 85, of Wapakoneta, OH died at 10:45am on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Wapakoneta Manor. He was born on November 18, 1931 in Dania, Florida to Guy and Della (Burns) Kindred who have preceded him in death. On April 27, 1973 he married Marilyn (Place) Kindred in Miami, Florida and she survives.
He graduated from Miami Edison High School in 1949 and enlisted in the U. S. Navy shortly thereafter. He served in the Navy until February 7, 1952 when he was honorably discharged.
Mr. Kindred received a B. S. degree in business from Florida State University in 1955. While at Florida State he was president of Theta Chi Fraternity. He then received his J. D. degree from the University of Florida School of Law in 1962. While at the University of Florida he was Notes Editor of the Florida Law Review, was on the Florida Moot Court Team for two years, and served as president of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity.
Following graduation, he enjoyed the practice of civil trial law in Miami, Florida with the firms of Frates & Fay, Batchelor, Brodnax, Guthrie & Kindred, and The Law Offices of Kermit G. Kindred. He specialized in Maritime Law and Aviation litigation. In 1982, Mr. Kindred retired from his law practice due to poor health. He was a former member of the Florida Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and American Trial Lawyers Association.
During his lifetime Kermit enjoyed boating and fishing with friends in the Florida Keys. Other interests included reading, cooking, and spending time with family. Known for his intellect, dry wit, and sense of humor, he was well-loved and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his three daughters, Kerri Kindred Post of Americus, GA, Kelli (David) Kindred Phillips of Nelson, New Zealand, and Darcie (William) Schalk of Plain City, OH; grandchildren Shannon Post of Brooklyn, NY, Devin (Leanne) Post-Tolsma of Durham, NC, J. D. Post of Seattle, WA, Victoria Joy Kindred Phillips of Nelson, New Zealand, and Sadie, Sydney, and Bo Schalk of Plain City, OH; two great-grandchildren Emrys and Maren Post-Tolsma of Durham, N. C. Other survivors include his former wife, Betty Deriso Pope of Americus, GA, and a nephew, Stephen Patrick Kindred of Jesup, GA. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Carmen (Buddy) Kindred and Kenneth Kindred.
Arrangements are being handled by Bayliff and Son Funeral Home, Cridersville, OH. At Mr. Kindred’s request, there will be no services. Private family services will be held at a later date. He has donated his body to Cleveland Clinic, where he had a valve surgery in 2005. He was hopeful that someone might be able to determine how he could live so long after suffering a heart attack and undergoing his first of three open heart surgeries at age 42.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to St. Rita’s Hospice, the Wapakoneta Manor, or Harvest Baptist Church.
