Klor A. Newland, age 70 of Wapakoneta, died at 3:36 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2011 in St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born December 28, 1940 in Lima, Ohio. He is the son of Harry Washington and Leona C. Rimer Newland. Both parents are deceased. On October 15, 1988 he married Sandra Joe Foote, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Mr. Newland retired in 1998 as a Induction Melt Furnance Operator with Ohio Steel/Teledyne Ohio Steel/Whemco Ohio Foundry in Lima. He was a member of the Waynesfield Baptist Church. He was a former Vice President of the U.A.W. Local 975, LIma; the former Mayor of Waynesfield, and very active with the Democratic Party. He was also the founding member of the UTCA club.
He loved spending time with his family and cherished time spent with his grandchilddren and watching them play sports. He was an avid football and basketball fan; always cheering for the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State. He enjoyed talking and never new a stranger. After retirement he treasured time traveling with his wife. They wintered in Southern Texas, traveled to China, Europe, Mexico and all over the United States.
He is also survived by a daughter – Kris M. (Scott) Lowry of Findlay; a son – K. David (Jennifer) Newland of West Minster; 5 grandchildren – Ashley, Brittney, Courtney, Kyle, and Zane; a sister – Rhea M. (Paul) Davenport of LIma; a brother-in-law – Joel B. (Anne) Foote of Wauseon; 2 nieces – Kim (Ron) Towsey; Lisa Davenport; 2 nephews – Joel Foote, Colin Foote; 6 great nephews – Austin, Keaton, Patrick, Alex, Jack, and Declan; a great niece – Olivia; and a former wife – Carolyn I. Graham.
Funeral services will begin 11:00a.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Waynesfield Baptist Church, 512 North Westminster Street, Waynesfield, The Rev. Don Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Willow Branch Cemetery, Waynesfield.
he family will receive friends from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2011 at Waynesfield Baptist Church, 512 North Westminster Street, Waynesfield and one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or the Waynesfield Baptist Church.
