Leona ‘Topsy’ Hale, age 81 of Alger, died at 12:38 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2010 in Lima Memorial Health Care Systems. She was born January 27, 1928 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky. She is the daughter of Lonnie and Jane Meadows Newland. Both parents are deceased. She was married to John Hale, who died in 1978.
Mrs. Hale was a little woman with a big heart. She loved to shop at Stites Grocery and watch Days of Our Lives. She had worked at the Tank Depot, North Electric, Welles, Rinks, K-Mart, Pic Way Shoe Mart, all of Lima.
Survivors include 1 son – Jim Hale of Alger; 3 daughters – Barbara (Dick) Risner of Alger; Becky Tilton of Alger; and Bonnie (John) Altwies of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; grandchildren – Jared Risner, Josh Risner, Jade Keith, Johnny Tilton, Jamie Tilton all of Alger; Hahna Martinez, Lonnie Altwies, Johnny Altwies all of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; great grandchildren – Keegan, Kolton, Karsen Keith, and Alexis Tilton of Alger; Dakota Gamez, Hailey Martinez, Keyanna Martinez of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; Special Nephews – John Reigle and Jack Reigle both of Lima.
She was preceded in death by a son – John Hale, Jr.; 2 brothers – Walter Newland and Lonnie (Bud) Newland; 1 sister – Ellen Reigle.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
